T&T: Dinghy engine

You probably have debris in the carb (possibly from ethanol enriched fuel)
that is blocking at least the idle circuit. Try starting it and then
opening the throttle past the mid point before it dies and see if it will
run hard but not idle (You may need to be in gear to do this so be careful).
This will tell you that it is a problem in the idle fuel passages and not in
the main jet. Either way will probably necessitate a carb overhaul to clear
whatever debris is there. Generally spray "Carb and Choke" cleaners are
ineffective for this unless you can remove an idle mixture screw and spray
directly through the passages there. Sometimes you get lucky and the debris
is in that area and is not something like rust. If you can find it, use a
fuel without ethanol. Some marinas carry it and it is worth it if you can
find it.
