I must agree with Pascal Gademer who wrote:

"personally, for navigating in the US I cant' imagine paying a dime for 
software or charts when either Seaclear or OpenCPN do the job with 100% 
reliability."

Also, SeaClear not only can be used to create routes, but also will 
output NMEA to the autopilot, and supports AIS info on screen.
Best of all, to get current charts, you just go to NOAA and download 
them whenever you feel the urge.

Very nice program and utterly stable.
