John,

As in the dockside 30/15 amp adapter thread, a little common sense is in 
order. If a feller thinks through what he intends to do, there is no end of 
adapters he can make quite safely and economically.

To test a specific device on a one-time basis, I recently made a 30 amp, 120 
volt, dockside extension cord based on a Lowe's $8, 30a plug. No, it's not 
water proof but I was working in the sunshine and when I finished, I put the 
plug and wire in my storage bin. Until the next time I need it.

Oh, and as a safety factor, I ALWAYS run all high current circuits through a 
2 micron filter.
