T&T: Sea Wise Davit

After some years we have developed some solutions which work, albeit
imperfectly, as substitutes for crossed stern lines with a Seawise Davit
system or with a dinghy suspended on stern davits arms.
1. For stern-in tie, run a long line for the stern hawse furthest
from the finger pier to a cleat or piling in the next slip (if your
neighbor agrees and space allows). This will hold the boat off. Run a
short stern line from the side nearest the finger pier but keep it very
loose to allow for tidal range. Also cross spring line on the side
nearest the finger pier. Use a tag line amidships to pull the boat to
the finger pier when boarding - just like the sailboats do. This
solution works for tides of about 3 feet and keeps the stern close to
the main dock for running the power cord.
2. For a bow-in tie, position the boat so that the swim platform is
centered between the two pilings furthest from the dock. Cross stern
lines in the gap between the stern and the dinghy. This solution works
well but sometimes means that the bow is some distance from the main
dock which makes running power cords problematic.
3. For alongside ties, use the conventional line setup with the
crossed stern line passing either under the dinghy or in the gap between
the stern and dinghy - depending on the location of cleats on the dock.
4. Us a TideSlide mooring system. We have not tried this but are
intrigued. Comments would be welcome.
YMMV
