MARY KATHRYN has a free-fall windlass, something I would recommend if you
have the choice. Deploying is VERY swift, which would seem to be good for
emergencies, although I have never had one. More on point, a free drop from
six feet has always gotten the residual mud off my hoe anchor. All the
new-fangled designs seem to be modified hoes, mine is a 90 lb SuperMax,
which has seldom met a bottom it has not liked.
