T&T: Alcohol into Canada during loop

Hi Joe

This is our experience regarding taking alcohol into Canada out here on the
West coast. Every summer we go back and forth into British Columbia. The one
cardinal rule is to prepare an exact list with everything you have on it. ie :
2 beers,B 2 1/2 liters red wine, 3/4 Liter of white wine, approximately 30
ounces of vodka, etc...There have been times that we have been over the
allotted amount and they have never charged us duty nor confiscated it. They
do become unhappy if you say, " I have a few beers and some vodka, a little
rum, and some white wine"! Once, when we were in Ketchikan , we resupplied the
boat knowing that we were going to do "the outer islands" and be away from a
major town. Once underway as we were heading South, it finally dawned on us,
that our next "stop" would be clearing customs in Prince Rupert-- dudh !! We
totally expected to pay duty. We just told the truth, listed what we had and
they let us through. Now granted we did NOT have cases of booze, and you
didn't say how much you were taking, but just be prepared and don't lie or try
to hide it!

Is crossing into Canada from the USA a problem with ship stores of alcohol
etc?

B B I am beginning to realize that my best laid plans to spend the winter in
the Bahamas (ship's stores fill for the out islands) may bite me in the
%#&*. B Issues prevented that trip so we have begun our loop. B We are on
our loop heading up the Hudson and are within a couple of weeks of entering
Canada. B Should I dump (give away all but personal exemption quantity) or
pay the duty what ever that is? B My liver will not tolerate the consumptive
alterative . :-(
