T&T: Security on the loop

I think it is a good idea to lock the boat at night and anytime you are
not aboard. I can recall three incidents. The first was someone came
aboard my old boat and decided to discharge the fire extinguisher in the
cockpit. A small padlock kept them out of the cabin where the clean up
would have been a lot harder.
On the Rideau we had to dock right next to a bar one night. It was not a
good place but the only thing available that night. At 1AM this guy gets
on the boat and is walking around. Turned out he wanted a friend to take
his picture from the dock while he was aboard. Another incident was
another drunk who was sitting up on the bridge in my home marina at 3 AM
while I was aboard.
None of these posed a real threat, although at the time you are never
sure. We take our boats for granted but they are a real attraction for
non boaters especially ones whose consumption of adult beverages or
other stuff has liberated them of their common sense.
