Bay Pelican spent over 2 months in Canada in 2008 going from Ontario to the
Canadian Maritimes via the St. Lawrence. Then back to the US from Nova
Scotia.

My suggestion for provincial courtesy flags is one for Quebec and the
Acadian flag for western PEI and New Brunswick. You will see 5 times the
boats in these areas flying these flags as you will see the boats in Toronto
flying the Ontario flag. The provincial flag should at all times be flown
beneath the Canadian national flag or on the port halyard if the National
flag is on the starboard halyard.

As to the attitude of the Canadians, the negative comments that have been
made do not match our experience over 2 months. In general we found the
Canadians, Quebecois and non-Quebecois slightly more polite then we find in
most of the American east coast. Some were so wonderful it was hard to
believe, others matter of fact. I am sure just as in any American city you
can find jerks. Our comment is that the people along the St. Lawrence were
wonderful to us. Only there short boating season got us to move on.
