T&T: DirectTV

I have no idea whether this still works, but it worked perfectly for me a few years ago.
I simply called DirectTV and told them I wanted to change my service address from my winter
home in Florida to my summer home in New York City, and I gave them the address and zip code
of a marina in New York City. They changed it over while I waited, and I had New York
channels all summer long, even when I moved the boat on to Maine. I never mentioned to
DirectTV that I was on a boat and they never asked. The "service address" is what I changed,
and no mail or other correspondence goes to the service address.

Since so many skippers seem to be having a problem with this I'm loath to suggest that it can
be that simple, but it certainly was for me when I last did it in 2006, and I also did it
several times in earlier years with the same success. I'll try again this summer. Meanwhile,
if anyone tries this and finds that it works (or doesn't work), please report back here.

Good luck,

It took almost a year. Each station initially denied the request sent by
DirecTV. After many conversations with the local person responsible at each
station and getting them to understand that the boat was cruising most of the
time and would not be located in their market area or any other affiliates
market area for a period for more than a few weeks at a time they agreed and
granted the waivers.
My land home and billing address is Charlotte, NC and these were the
affiliates that granted waivers.
