T&T: Teak Oil Processes

The sage advice of the list is needed one more time.
I am sick and tired of messing with Cetol, varnish and like on my exposed
teak. Some of it I have painted and now I wish to try teak oil. I have
sanded the teak grate in the bow and given it four applications a week or so
apart of West Marine teak oil. It seems to soak in and then after 3-4 days
it seems like it is starting to weather. The bottle says 2 applications is
sufficient!

What are others experience with teak oil?
How many coats will it take to maintain a dark finish?
How frequently should I expect to apply it, particularly in the hot summer
sun?

Or am I wasting my time?
