A five watt panel would only put out 1 to 2 amps per day in ideal conditions.
I really don't think that would be worthwhile for a hoist motor. Chuck

usually used the winch twice in the morning and twice in the evening (for the
dog) since I anchored most of the time.? Never had a weak battery at that
usage.? I never did the math and I'm sure if your winch usage is more, it
could be a problem.
