Post script.
Dave is correct in pointing out the potential issue of some types of
charger.
the original disuciison dalt with multi bank chargers which have to have
isolation in order to work with mor than one battery.

Others have pointed out the fallacy of using automotive chargers which do
not have
internal isolation diodes.

It just goes to show, never take anything for granted; nor assume that
everybody is on the same page. :-((

We have often bitched about the exorbitant price of 'marine' products but
here is a case where marine grade does in fact reflect better quality for
more money.

Quality chargers intended for permanent connection to battery banks that
may see multiple charging sources such as engine alternator, solar panels
or a combiner will have internal diodes to prevent a back feed. Multi
bank chargers intended to charge two or more batteries will also have diodes
on each output.
But dedicated chargers intended to work as stand alone and connected to a
single battery may not.
TC40+ IOTA and Newmar have the required characteristics.
