T&T: Direct TV Sat Change?

I live in an area that requires dual LNB's to get the local stations. I was 
 told that this is because the locals and the HBO's (and such) are on 
different  satellites.
 
On my boat I have a KVH C3 (2000 updated 2006 model) that has one  LNB.
 
I took the standard Direct TV box from the guest bedroom out to the boat to 
 give the KVH some exercise and it is getting all the channels...locals, 
HBO,  TWC, TCM etc.
 
I didn't think this was possible.

P.S. For my cruising years I played the "change my service area" game with  
Direct TV in order to get the locals. Once I got to NYC I got the national  
locals and stuck there until I moved into a house in SW Florida. I then had 
the  house set up for HD, locals and the whole nine yards based upon my 
current  location. I have a triple LNB dish nailed onto the side of the house 
because of  the HD.
