Thanks to all who have shared your advice and experience with regard to your
motors. As a result I have concluded that I would not be satisfied with less
than a 9.9HP 2 stroke and as the 15HP 2 stroke Yamaha is the same weight that
is probably the what I will go with. Unfortunately the Nissan, Tohatsu,
Evenrude, Johnson, Mercury brands no longer make a portable 2 stroke. The
technology of lower emmissions in 2 stroles is only applied to larger motors
at this time. Yamaha is the only brand available in lesser HP because its
fuel-oil mix is 100-1 which creates emmissions below new EPA standards. Even
then they are not available in all states and waterways. The lowest price I
have found for a 15HP Yamaha is around $2100.00. I may have to nurse my old
Johnson along for awhile.
