T&T: Outboard Motors

Fellow Trawlerers: We have an Achielles inflatable with air floor - 10 feet
long
powered by a Mercury 6 hp 4 stroke motor. When I'm by myself the dink
planes
with ease and I can back off to 1/2 throttle. With the Admiral and me
aboard 
we "sometimes" get on plane and need to stay pretty close to full
throttle. I don't
know why we plane at times and others we just can't get
there.

Today I bought a 9.9 Johnson 4 stroke and would imagine that this boat
and a hard
dink we also own will fly.  At least I hope so. 

All in all, if I
was operating in water that was consistantly rougher than my
bath tub, I'd
want more than 6 hp.
