T&T: snubber braid

We too only attach our snubbers to the rode with a rolling hitch, and early on we discovered that if the snubber was of a large size, it would slip on the rode.

We eventially put in, what we call, a snubber braid, and with use, we found that it grips, either rope or chain, extremely well. We've never had one slip or fail, nor has one shown to wear any faster than the rest of the snubber.

Here is how we make a snubber braid: We put a whipping on the snubber, approximately 20 -24 inches from the end; unlay the 3 strand back to this whipping; reversing direction, tightly braid the 3 strands back together (like a girl does to her hair); once at the end, put in one (or two) whippings to hold everything together; and, trim the end.

Intellectually, it seems that it would have many faults, but in actual use, none of the preceived problems ever materialize. (We find them useful for other applications also.)
