I have the naturally-aspirated 4-cyl John Deere (which uses the same
starter as yours, I believe), and it draws about 400 amps while cranking.
It also starts immediately, in less than one second of cranking, so that I
have to depress the stop button while cranking in order to crank long enough
to get a current reading on the Xantrex Link 1000. The 500 amp shunt has
been fine, for 11 years now. I doubt you need the 1000 amp shunt, but
others with much larger diesels might need it.
