 >I would highly suggest that you don't ask us, a bunch of laymen/
women about skin creams. Ask your dermatologist what he/she suggests.
And if the verdict is to keep the hell out of the sun, then enjoy the
pilothouse for many years.

This is the best advice, in my opinion, that you're going to get on
the internet on any subject of this nature. Just because a person
can type doesn't mean they know anything you'd want to trust your
life to.

As to the pilothouse, it's no so bad. We never con our boat from the
flying bridge because both my wife and I hate the sight picture from
up there. Especially docking. We both find it much easier and much
more intuitive to pilot, maneuver, and dock the boat from the lower
helm station. Plus that puts us right next to the main deck if one
of us has to step out and help the other one with something. Plus I
can hear what the engines are doing and any strange smells are
noticed immediately. (This once prevented an electronics fire that
would have gone totally unnoticed had we been on the flying bridge.)
As to relying on alarms to warn of impending trouble, I've found the
only thing alarms can be truly relied upon for is to tell you that
the piece of equipment they're hooked up to has just irreparably
destroyed itself. We enjoy the flying bridge once we are moored up
or at anchor, but underway we feel totally disconnected from the boat
up there. Given the choice between running from the shade of the
pilothouse or not boating, I wouldn't think it would be a very hard
decision for a dedicated boater to make.
