T&T: Anchor Chain

Another advantage of buying locally is that most suppliers will whack
off a foot or two of the chain you want to buy so you can make sure it
will properly fit the wildcat on your windlass before you commit to a
bulk purchase. You would be surprised at the differences in chain (or
wildcats) even within the same size specification. A friend has a
windlass marked for a common chain size, but when he bought new chain of
this size it would slip and jump in the wildcat. In the end he had to
remove the wildcat and take it to the local chain supplier. They found
a chain that fit the wildcat properly, but it was not the type he had
purchased originally. I don't recall all the details but the difference
was between BB and High-Test or something like that. One fit the
wildcat, the other didn't.
