I don't get it either; no one steps on my teak decks with shoes on; go to
Thailand and its rude to go into a house with your shoes on. AND even if I was
a boat sales operation I would not want people with questionable footwear
stepping onto my stock decks. Then we get to kids, bags etc! Could be an
extended debate about pride of ownership?
The issue I have is going onto the big boats and some 20 something, on a
pittance, who likely is uninterested in boating anyway, looks you up and down
to decide if you can afford it!!!! Which I couldn't; but a wise salesman let
me on one once, and I bought one of his smaller models, and later traded up.
I think its only polite, and accepted practice in many boating circles, to
take your shoes off, or indeed follow any etiquette commonly requested.
