T&T: 1980's DeFever 49 Pilothouse?

Jeffrey,

Are the DF49s and DF53s full displacement blue water trawlers or are  
they more suited for coastal cruising? How do they handle a following  
sea? What kind of performance (speed & economy) are you seeing from  
your boat? As you can probably tell, I don't know much about this  
line of boat. I did find something interesting on the  
yachtcouncil.com website page about Defever which states, "many older  
DeFevers (including the popular Alaskan series from Grand Banks) were  
built of wood." I am not interested in a wood hull, but I am  
interested in the relationship between Grand Banks and Defever that  
this statement implies.
