T&T: 1980's DeFever 49 Pilothouse?

Hi,

This is my first post although I've been a list member for a while now. 
I'm hoping to get some feedback about the 1980's DeFever 49 Pilothouse 
design. Appropriateness for cruising plan? Appropriateness as 
live-aboard? Sea-keeping, etc.?

My wife and I are a couple of months away from an empty nest. We plan 
to make the move from land to a live-aboard. We want to travel and have 
a grand adventure. So the plan is; a shake-down cruise around the 
Great-Loop then off to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and then who knows 
perhaps across the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, or off to Panama and 
the Pacific. It will be just the two of us and a couple of big dogs, 
with occasional visits from our college age daughter.
