Well now, I guess I feel the search and rescue resources are for those that
take reasonable risk when on the water. Single-handed speeding across open
oceans is not, in my mind, reasonable risk and those that do so should not
expect others to save them.

My local harbormaster tells the tale of a local dope that ran out of gas one
Sunday on Cape Cod Bay. No VHF, did not know how to anchor, etc. After the
harbormaster towed his sorry butt 8 or so miles to safety he suggested he pay
more attention to the basics. The response? "That's what the Harbormaster is
for".
