T&T: Rotten meat smell in refrig/freezer

I can't solve your immediate problem, but here's the belt and suspenders 
ounce of prevention I take with the refrigerator.

It is both an AC and DC appliance. If both sources are powering it, AC has 
priority, DC is ignored (that means no battery drain, a good thing). Should 
the AC disappear, as it did for you, then the DC powers the refrig, until 
the batteries are drained.

If I leave the boat for 1 or 2 days, I'll leave stuff in it. If I'm going to 
be gone longer, spoilable stuff are removed.
