Thank you all for responding. The answers are all over the board, and I
guess I got what I deserve for not being detailed enough. First of all, I
have been boating since I was 3 and im 52 now, so im not a newbie, and yes I
know what an anchor is. I have put together a most likely scenario that I
would prefer for my cruising style. The boat will be paid for in cash, and I
estimate that I will have about 300k in reserve funds (which will be drawn
off for major repairs, bottom jobs, etc.)I have worked for 34 years in the
trades and am very adept at maintenance and repairs (even a 5 year stint as
a marine electrician for the Staten island ferries).I have compiled a rough
estimate on my basic needs, and in the area where u see quote, is an actual
quote and not a guesstimate (did I spell that right?)My monthly income
should be approx. 11k before taxes, so I figure about 8k is a safe estimate
for net.
1. Insurance (quote) 7000 or 583 monthly
2. fuel 7000 or 583 monthly (est)
3. 6 month dockage in Chesapeake (quote) 6000 or 500
monthly
4. Phone and sat TV 100 monthly
5. 1 month dockage in Stuart, Fla (quote) 1000
6. Maintenance 400 monthly(est)
7. Food 500 monthly (based on quote from commodore)
8. Health INS 500 monthly
9. Custom fees 500
The other 5 months I intend to be in the Caribbean on the hook. I come up
with about 5100 a month, which would leave 2-3 k for peripherals such as
dining out, alcohol, and miscellaneous costs .Where, am I going wrong with
this? I am no where near 80-120K and have never lived that kind of
lifestyle. Even the six month dockage in the Chesapeake is not a gimme (I
more likely will do monthly (980 per month -quote)) and be on the hook the
majority of the time. I know many of you have answered this question
already, and I apologize for not wording it correctly, but with the new
scenario I have presented, could you please help me out again. if im am not
realistic in my estimates, than I wont have the means to achieve my lifelong
dream and have to be land based and play bingo on Thursdays(just
kidding)thanks AGAIN ahead of time sincerely Gerald Borna
