T&T: Heeling and fuel tank crossover

These articles are a tug in gale force conditions and has little relation to
the tawlers we operate and if you are offshore in a gale in your or my
trawler, your crossover pipe is the least of your worries. The boat will more
likely do some serious rolling as opposed to laying to one side or the other
and the crossovers in most of our boats are small enough that the fuel flow
will be minimum. Can it happen, perhaps. But my opinion is that there is
minimal risk to our type of boat. Tugs and commercial vessels aside, where is
there any evidence or reports of a pleasure vessel rolling over or sinking due
to fuel transferring through the crossover. We have been on the water for over
50 years and I personally can not recall any verifiable accounts or even
rumors. Maybe someone else has. Chuck

Has anyone heard of a boat listing to a dangerous degree as a consequence of
an open crossover line? I think that is the real issue.
