Hi Folks, lurker here...
I finally tried ActiveCaptain on my Windows Mobile device. I love it, and
now I wish I hadn't put off trying it so long. It will quickly become my
frequently used resource for locating anchorages, looking up marina contact
info, etc. Nice work, Jeff! FWIW, setting it up to use the device's
internal GPS was not even a minute of work... Just went to preferences,
selected the port, and it was done. For Google Maps, I didn't even have to
do any set up. I installed it, and the default GPS setting ("Managed by
Windows") worked immediately.
As for iPhone, I'm sorry but with the device, the mandatory data plan, and
the various proprietary cords and accessories, I'm not plunking down several
hundred dollars for it. An HTC Touch is $50 and unlimited data is 29.99/mo,
and does everything I want without a problem, including getting email from
this list. I uses the exact same USB cord for my phone/PDA, camera, GPS,
portable hard drive, and mp3 player (non-ipod). I love the iPhone slick UI,
but it's just not worth having all that extra crap and expense with it.
