Another method for line/net cutting as an alternative to a knife is a
standard metal cutting hack saw which is safer to use and can be tied off to
the prop shaft.
you never know what you will find around a prop shaft the hack saw will cut
everything.
The hack saw blade should be inserted in reverse for pull cutting ,which is
easier than push cutting by using a standard knife ,which can be lost at sea.
I would have thought that a pedal bicycle helmet made with foam would float
and may not be suitable to dive with, however a gutted motor cycle helmet and
baseball cap would offer more protection, you may wish to drill a small in the
top of the helmet to relieve the trapped air.
A standard motor cycle helmet can be worn with ear plugs in the engine room
during rough seas.
