My two cents.
Any boat that floats has a value to the user as a means of getting on the
water. Staying on the water may be another thing in some cases.........
I have owned several boats over the years and each had a different use. One
was a 1958, 35' Chris Craft Roamer (steel) that had been sunk prior to my
purchase. I completely restored the boat with big plans to live aboard and
travel. It turned out beautiful. The engines were the original Hercules 6
cyl. gas flat heads. They ran great and were perfect for a lake boat that
was ocasionally used, but were not suitable for a cruising boat...even
though the boat was suitable for living aboard with the hard aft enclosure I
built, *the boat was not TRANSPORTATION.* A fellow online made this
statement to me and I have always used it as a qualifier for a boat
purchase. So do I need transportation or just a floating object to get me
on the water? Some boats I have owned since then have been great for short
distances in protected waters. Some have been better for long distance
cruising and still for protected waters. .The main thing is that you get on
the water and enjoy yourself. Don't use a boat beyond what it is designed
for...or what it's condition allows you to do. I always find a way to get
on the water...even with an inner tube. but coming back has always been a
priority of mine.
