Hi Dave,
For some new experience like Chuck suggested you need, over last winter I
installed a Balmar model 60-120-SR-IG with the MC-612-H external regulator
and am pleased as punch with the performance. I have about 160 hours on this
arrangement and it has been flawless. The 60 series has a built in "dumb"
regulator for a backup and I have run it both ways and am pleased with the
charging ability. (I installed a switch as per Balmar's instructions to
switch from internal regulaton to external) By the way, the rest of my
system consist of 8 Golf carts (930 amp hours) and the stock 70 amp
alternator on the other engine, all charging the same battery bank. I also
installed Blue Sea digital ammeters on both charging circuits so I can see
exactly what the alternators are doing. With the battery bank at near 50%,
I've seen the old alternator put out about 60 amps along with the Balmar
over 110 amps.
My future plan is to add another Balmar to replace the old alternator when
the "project Kitty" allows.
I highly reccomend Balmar.
