In retrospect, I would not fool around with the bubble wrap again unless I
could determine that the insulation factor of having it on the outside of
the boat proved to be more effective than just a white opaque covering.

That aluminum residue is a bear to remove.

In that the residue is difficult to remove, do think it would be beneficial
to sandwich the bubble wrap between two layers of canvas? This should
provide the insulating qualities (maybe a little more due to the extra layer
of canvas) while preventing the material from sticking to the windows. The
inner canvas would probably have to be slightly smaller than the outer
canvas with the snaps. Do you have a feel for the overall effectiveness of
this approach (with modifications, of course)?

This approach (two layers of canvas) might also prove more effective if
rigid closed cell foam sheet was substitute for the bubble wrap. The foam
could be held in place by stitching the sides of the canvas, somewhat like a
pillow. I would think the R value for the foam would be higher than the
bubble wrap.
