T&T: Westerbeke Genny question

My 41 President is equipped with a 7.7 KW Westerbeke genny.
A couple days ago while it was running I happened to put my hand on the 
Voltmeter that is part of the remote control panel mounted in my lower helm.
It was quite hot, there is no other source of heat there, so the gauge 
was heating up itself. Is this normal? I don't know if it's been doing 
it all along. The genny runs perfectly, no complaints there.
