Jeff asked:

Since we have all this experience on the Raymarine smartpilot, maybe
somebody can help me with my problem, the degree reading is 180 degrees out
or  at a
0 degree heading, the pilot reads 180 degrees, or is this the norm?

Reply;

I had the same experience about three years ago while heading to the
Bahamas. I just continued using the auto pilot this way and it held course just as
it always had only with the wrong heading showing on the display. About
eighteen months later the unit finally quit and after sending the unit back to
Raymarine I had to replace the compass.
