Thanks to all. I found a profile of her done in December, 2008 and her life
has been spent on boats and she lived on the family's 60' Hatteras which she
and her sister learned to run and dock. Subsequently, she seems to have been
adopted by the NY Waterway ferry captains who insured that she got the
necessary deck and bridge time.

Note, that when asked what she did, she said (words to the effect) that she
heard about the plane on her VHF, checked for down river traffic, backed,
turned around, and went for the plane. She was demonstrating the sequence
that she had learned both OJT and in the book. This is her 6th month on the
job as captain.
