T&T: Vacuum cleaners - what works for you?

We've been using an el cheapo Eureka "stick" vacuum cleaner aboard
Bluewater. It has the advantage of being inexpensive and easy to
handle, but it's noisy and, more important, our carpets have shown
us we need something better. I'm wondering what other owners are
using.

Consumer reports rates the Hoover Flair S2200 and Dirt Devil Power
Stick MO84100 as the best of the stick vacs. They're only 40 bucks
(each) and it's hard to believe you can get a decent vacuum cleaner
for that little. As CR says, "none (of the stick vacs) can deep-clean
carpets like their larger cousins, so think of them as backup vacs."

One that looks like it may be a contender is the Bissell Momentum 82G
series, an upright check-rated by Consumer Reports. It weighs in at
just 18 lbs., doesn't use a bag, and is priced around $120.

Do you have an easy-to-use vacuum that does a good job of cleaning
your trawler? What is it and why do you like it?

For the record, we have a small shop vac onboard and use it for lots
of chores, but it's not handy for cleaning the whole interior. Also,
we're not interested in installing a "buit-in" vacuum system--too
much complexity and too expensive.

Many thanks for any input!

Thanks,
