T&T: uploading info to the chartplotter

I started a thread not long ago about uploading data from my laptop to my
Furuno 1700C chartplotter.
the capn can generate a .dbx file for upload.
I downloaded three freeware programs: easy gps, gps utility gps babel. The
last one I couldn't make heads or tails of but I could upload routes with gps
utility. Sticking point here is the freeware will only upload 10 waypoints,
cutting off any more that might be on the route. Want $60 to upgrade. Easy gps
will accept a route of any length but the sticker is that its output is routed
to a specific make and model gps and Furuno didn't make the cut. I tried
several makes and models at random and none worked.
Miser that I am I'd prefer the freebie. Does anyone know of a magellan, garmin
model that would have the same input characteristics as the Furuno or must I
just pony up the $$$$$. Or is there another program I don't know about.
