The technical aspect of all of the previous responses are fairly accurate with
some leeway allowed for personality and intent of travel. You know, like the
rest of us, that cruising, is a mind set. Maybe one is thinking get there in
a hurry, perhaps looking to go from marina to marina, or simply anchor out.
Maybe sample as many restaurants as possible or count how many different forms
of wildlife. The point being each of us is different in our cruising styles
and needs.
We prefer these few methods:
* When we butter our bread for lunch and the bread tears due to the cold
butter it is time to amble south. When you need a brush to apply to bread go
north.
* Stop and explore when something strikes your fancy or for no reason at
all.
* Leave a place when your inner feelings say start the engines.
* Ooze through the wondrous areas slowly like your boat is in molasses when
it really is your brain that is.
* Wake and sleep with the rhythm of the sun. But sometimes stay up to see
the stars or wake early for the
glories of sunrise.
* Be the first to break water of a morning once in a while.
* Drink copious amounts of your favorite potable.
* Stand nude on the foredeck and piss off the side of the boat in the heart
of the Georgia savanah--it allows you
to feel most powerful and totally insignificant at the same time. P.S.
One hand for the ship the other for yourself, and consider making that the lee
rail.
But I am pretty sure you know all this. Have fun my friend.
