Dave,
I second Pascal's comments and raise you. Consider going to a 24V thruster and
dedicated batteries. I've heard good reports of the 24V being more robust.
On MorningStar, our thruster and windlass are both 12V and powered by a
dedicated 12V 4D battery that lives under the forward stateroom. Its OK,but
if I was starting from scratch, I'd consider the 24V option.
I'm not sure that deep cycle batteries are necessary. After all, a thruster
motor is remarkably similar to a starter motor.
