"From today, coastguard rescue teams around Britain will no longer be able
to fire flares during night rescues. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said
that the alteration was in line with changing rescue practices and the
increasing use of night-vision goggles. Any crews still with flares will be
required to hand them to the Ministry of Defence. The change will not affect
flared trousers, which may still be worn without fear of prosecution."

Wait 'till the fashion police get to know!

Regards and a Happy New Year to all
