We use a product called ZEP, available at Home Depot, for our septic
tank. It contains enzymes that digest sludge, paper and most organic
deposits. Septic tank professionals use it and similar products to
clear septic tank ;leach field pipes. It seems to work quite well.
When the tank is opened for clean out every few years, there is no
smell.
