I asked on the MTOA web site if anyone had any experience with
this problem
(because I thought those folks have worked on every kind of
problem
imaginable) and no one acknowledged having experienced it.
They must
not be looking very hard. :-)
Is anyone on this list familiar with this
supposed problem?
I've seen it first hand on several boats. And at least one
was a Marine Trader where the stringers stopped before they butted to a
bulkhead and the ends were not covered/sealed with any glass. So water got
to
the end grain and they had rotted.

Our first attempt to purchase a trawler (38 Marine Trader) ended badly when
the surveyor pointed out the stringers were rotten and full of water.
We got our deposit back and went on to purchase our present boat.
