Kevin,

You'll find much of what you need at http//www.activecaptain.com

This is an interactive website which overlays GoogleEarth mapping with thousands of "points of interest" -- marinas, anchorages, bridges, and shoreside facilities of interest to cruisers, and it's updated by other cruisers who must sign their names so in my experience it tends to be both useful and truthful. It's free to join and use. I have no financial or other interest in the site other than as a satisfied user.

Having been seperated from my native Long Island for the past 30 years and
without an annual slip as of 5/1/09 I am planning to hang out on Long Island
for part of the summer prior to Maine or the Erie Canal/Loop.

This will not be a marina hopping cruise but a strictly "on the hook"
lifestyle.

Can the listees suggest special hangouts that are special. low cost or free?

Museums you can join, Collages that have facilities, Public/municipal
facilities?

Things like the Oriental Town Dock, The St. Michaels Maritime Museum, or
Vero/Velcro Beach?

I have looked into the Fire Island National Seashore, Wondered about the
Suffolk County Maritime Museum in Sayville, been wondering about the Stony
Brook University site in Southampton. That sort of thing.
