T&T: Marine SSB issues

The comment was made that the cable between the tuner and a stick antenna
should be limited to 10 feet.

Perhaps this is the long standing problem with my SSB reception. I have a
23 stick antenna, a Icom 130 tuner connected by 10 feet of GTO -15 cable.
My reception is poor at 4 mg or less. There is a lot of static but the
reception is marginally understandable. If the sending station is close, for
example another boat in same anchorage, the reception is clear. This is
with all other power on boat turned off. At 6mg or higher I have reasonable
reception. The antenna is new, the radio and tuner have been recently
checked by ICOM.

I have checked my installation manuals from Icom and find no mention of this
limitation. The installation was done by a professional, and I now regret
that choice.

Anyone have an opinion as to whether these symptoms relate to the distance
between the tuner and antenna?
