T&T: Ground plane/counterpoise

 Hello All,
 We have read a bunch of replies to the copper pipe question now.
 I will give my view from 18 years in electronics.

 The main reason for using copper foil is to create a CAPACITOR between the 
foil and the ocean. The use of a Dynaplate is almost irrelevant.
 The copper pipe, even when flattened, will only be as effective as foil of 
the same width as the flattened pipe.
 THIS IS NOT ABOUT CONDUCTING RF!
 It is about coupling RF to the ocean!

 The larger the surface area of the 'below the waterline' ground plane, the 
more effective the 'counterpoise',
