T&T: water line to dripless shaft bearings

I would caution anyone doing a crossover between dripless seals. Talk with
your engine manufacturer first. In some set ups using a cross over with one
engine not running will force water into the engine that is not running so be
sure and get some professional advice first. Chuck

My 2 cents - check the stuffing box temp with an infrared thermometer during
stabilized twin engine operation. Check again when running on one engine.
If the temp change is not great, you're likely good. If not, run a simple

cross feed off two tees. Then they are both fed. I might do this anyway,
as
a
damaged shaft and/or worn packings are potentially expensive.

An 'unbraked' windmilling prop at trawler speeds does not spin that
fast,
but it is draggy. Suggest you also check the tranny temps, but I doubt it
will
be a problem (using your hand on the case is a good method - if you can keep
it there, it's okay temp-wise). The Velvet Drive factory techs gave me
this
tidbit. Good luck to you!
