T&T: Fastening registration to inflatable

I have had  NY stickers stuck on my inflatable since 89, I leave the  
original one on and stick the new one over it.

Has anyone found a good  method of fastening a state registration sticker
(roughly 2.5" square)  directly onto the tube of an inflatable?

I would prefer fastening  directly to the tube rather than fastening it to a
"board" of any sort and  trying to fasten that in place since I already have
the registration number  stenciled on the tube.
