T&T: AC question

Arild - I TOTALLY agree on the genset issue. Part power usage is so bad
for a constant rpm design (eventually someone will market a diesel-fueled
DC/inverter type that varies power/rpm with the load. I was not considering
the A/C usage away from land power. But now that we are, why not run the
thing (a/c) wide open with the genset, cool the thermal mass down as much as
possible, then shut down the genset and the a/c. That's what I do. I
never considered running the a/c and genset all night. Goes against the grain
for me. I just blow a 12vdc fan and perspire. I know, ugh.

I will tell you I assessed insulation issues - big job on my old Taiwan
ACMY. Seems it needs to be built in. I did seal the windows with shrink
plastic (works GREAT! - poor man's double pane) and have sun covers with
insulating panels in the other areas.

I still think bigger A/Cs are better if the power delivery system can
handle it. In my 42 footer, I have 32,000 BTUs in two units, can run them wide
open nonstop, and DO NOT get that cold if it's more than 90 outside (NC
humidity). They work fine - confirmed by two local experts. Nature of the
old beast.

So if you go big on
the A/c  sizes  and then decide to only run one  little unit for sleeping;
you are running the big genset under light load conditions. Not good for
genset life.
