Jim, if you're going to spend much time in the Neuse, Alligator and
Chesapeake Bay, I'd look at the SuperMax - it will hold in deep mud
where nothing else will. You'll never get a plow of any kind to hold and
dig in mud (or any other bottom material for that matter) like the SuperMax.
The guy who turned the list on to the SuperMax was Capn Wil Andrews, who
ran a series of tests on the SuperMax in your area. He concluded (this
was back in the late 90s) that no other anchor was better.
So you can add a bigger plow type, or a Danforth, but you really won't
get much better holding other than that provided by the shear weight of
it all.
