T&T: Cuba

Jeff,

Judy and I took our Schipperke to Cuba perhaps a dozen years ago when U.S. Government restrictions were not so onerous. An English speaking vet came aboard, gave our dog a 30-second cursory examination and pronounced her healthy, welcomed her to Cuba, then stayed for a beer or two and a very pleasant conversation of an hour or so. No problemo, amigo! Of course things may have changed since then.

Cuba does indeed offer terrific cruising, but the lack of cruising infrastructure and the requirement to check out of each port and check back in at the next makes cruising there more difficult that it ought to be. That said, you can be sure I'll be going back when the rules permit.

I've already started studying the harbors and destinations.

3,500 miles of coastline.

289 named beaches.

Southeastern coast is incredibly protected by 6,000 ft mountain ranges
- haven't had a direct hurricane hit there because of it.

The big issue to me is going to be the restrictions and requirements
of bringing dogs. Of course, they better have some way of getting
internet access too!
