T&T: Eight bells for John Camm

The thing about John Camm that meant the most to me was his generosity. He
contributed over and over again to my knowledge about boats, on the list and
in person. And he did it with a gentle, unselfconscious confidence that
comes from knowing both theory and practice. He had been there and done that
for years, but I never felt put down by the vast gap between what he knew
about boats and what I know.

I had the great pleasure of getting the "Camm Tour" of his beloved Seahorse
when he visited Lake Champlain here in Vermont. It is one slick rig. When he
and Penny sailed South to Trinidad, I thought to myself, "This guy is doing
it right. Summer in beautiful Vermont, Winter in lovely Trinidad. In a boat
that has already gone around The Horn."

John's last message to me is: "Don't wait."
